Dumfries, Prince William Urge ‘Night Out’ Participation

Dumfries, Va. – Dumfries and Prince William County have urged residents to participate in National Night Out on Tuesday.

Dumfries will hold a special barbecue at 6 p.m. at the town’s community center. The event will highlight the importance of senior citizens’ role in helping police protect town residents and property.

Hot dogs fresh from the grill will be served and the first 25 participants will be given a free National Night Out t-shirt, according to a press release from town officials.

Those who wish to attend are urged to call 703-221-111 to make reservations.

Police in Prince William have also encouraged residents to turn on the outside lights, lock the doors to their homes and spend the evening with their neighbors on Tuesday night.

“National Night Out – coordinated by the Crime Prevention Unit of the Police Department in partnership with the Prince William Crime Prevention Council – is designed to help create healthy neighborhoods block by block, to help neighbors know one another, to celebrate community, and to take steps to make neighborhoods safer for all residents, said Prince William police spokeswoman Sharon Richardson.”

The event also encourages residents to create neighborhood watch programs and to strengthen their relationships with the police department.

National Night Out Events have also been scheduled in Stafford County.
