Mac McQuown, of Stafford, is in training for his next big adventure that will take him from the site of the World Trade Center in New York City to the capitals of all of the lower 48 states. He departs on September 11, 2011, exactly 10 years after the terrorist attacks on the trade center, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.
For the past few months, he’s been walking up and down Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) carrying a large U.S. Flag.
“I work at Target and walk to work, but this is also a means of traing for me,” said McQuown. “I’m too old to fight anymore, but this is my way of showing my appreciation for those who have served their country.”
McQuown is making the trip as part of the Veteran’s Miracle Network, a group aimed at raising awareness of wounded veterans who have served in every war in recent memory all the way back to World War I.
The Marine says while many of the memorials in Washington are majestic, people in other parts of the country should have a place to come and pay their respects to the fallen.
