Crime Watch: Vandal Injured, Cleaners Hit Twice in 1 Week

Woodbridge, Va. –– It appears a vandal wanted to commit the crime but didn’t count on being injured in the process.

Police were called at 1:15 a.m. Monday to Marumsco Hills Elementary School at 14100 Page Street in Woodbridge. They found six windows on the building had been smashed out.

Afterward, rescue crews were called to treat the injured hand of the alleged offender, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The suspect in this case was injured by flying glass after the windows had been shattered.

William Jefferson Romero, 18, of Woodbridge, is charged with destruction of public property and with trespassing on school property.

He was treated for injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.

Romero was released on summons and is scheduled to appear in court July 15.

In other crime news, a business at Featherstone Square in Woodbridge was twice burglarized this week, and also burglarized was a trailer at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

Police on Monday were called Featherstone Cleaners at 14543 Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. 1), at Featherstone Square, after someone broke in. The burglary happened between 8 p.m. Sunday and 5:20 a.m. Monday.

Entry was made through a rear door and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the register, said Perok.

On Tuesday, burglars were out again at Featherstone Square after three businesses were broken into just after 11 p.m. The Fancy Hair and Nail Salon, Irie Caribbean American Takeout and Featherstone, and Featherstone Cleaners, for a second time, were all burglarized, said Perok.

Each store had windows broken out causing about $2,600 damage. Nothing was reported missing from any of the shops.

Also on Tuesday in Triangle, a trailer on the grounds of the Marine museum was broken into.

The museum grounds sit at 18900 Jefferson Davis Highway, and the trailer that sits outside the museum was burglarized between 5 p.m. Monday and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. Nothing was stolen.
