Woodbridge, Va. –– A torrential downpour flooded the field at Pfitzner Stadium on Sunday night and caused the postponement of Monday night’s game between the Potomac Nationals and Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
The two clubs will make the ballgame as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday, beginning at 6 p.m.
The deluge began several hours after the P-Nats wrapped up their sweep of the Salem Red Sox Sunday afternoon. Within minutes of the massive rains beginning, the entire field and surrounding warning tracks were flooded and covered by inches of water. Heavy winds whipped tarps out of place and literally soaked the playing surface.
With the safety of Washington Nationals and Texas Rangers players their chief priority, the Potomac Nationals elected to postpone Mondays game. Pfitzner Stadium’s newly installed drainage system combined with forecasted sunny skies will have the surface in playing condition by Tuesday night’s first pitch.
Fans with tickets to Monday night’s game can redeem them with the P-Nats ticket office for any other game except for July 4th. To do so, they can call the ticket office at 703-590-2311.
The opening game in Tuesday night’s twinbill will pit righthander Cameron Selik against Justin Grimm. First pitch is scheduled for 6 P.M., and the gates will open at 5 o’clock.

Police have arrested a suspect in connection to the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in the 8300 block of Sunset Drive near Manassas on January 9.
Marlon Osvaldo Bautista, 20, of Manassas Park, was apprehended on January 13 and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Bautista is being held without bond, and a court date is pending.
The victim has been identified as Calvin Tyshaun Odell Batsone, 22, of Woodbridge. Police say Batsone was shot during an altercation involving two groups that escalated into gunfire. The groups fled the scene in separate vehicles, and Batsone was later transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. No additional injuries or property damage were reported.
Daryl Price, a senior at Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School in Manassas, now has his artwork on display in an international exhibition.
Price submitted his Advanced Placement (AP) art studio portfolio to the College Board in 2024, and was one of 50 students selected out of 80,000 to have their artwork displayed on the international stage.
“I feel so incredibly honored to have my work be chosen to be part of such an awesome exhibition,” Price said.
Price was in the two-dimensional studio art class. According to a Prince William County Schools (PWCS) press release, Price created scenes paying homage to punk music.
“In my years in PWCS, I think all of my art teachers have been really supportive of just creation and my imagination in general,” Price said. “Colgan itself … really helped me find and establish my creative voice.”
The Fredericksburg City Council will meet on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. The council’s work session begins at 5 p.m., and their regular session begins at 7:30 p.m.
The regular meeting will be streamed live, and the agendas for both meetings has been posted online.
During the 5 p.m. work session, the council will hold a planning commission interview and then discuss the proposed technology district overlay with the planning commission. City staff presented plans for a 250-acre technology district at a December 10, 2024 council meeting. The district will be located in Celebrate Virginia South, parallel to the Rappahannock River.
