Improvements, Cash Coming to Leesylvania

Seagulls fly over the Potomac River at Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge.

Woodbridge, Va. — A state park in our area is expecting a large donation from one of Virginia’s largest utility companies.

Dominion Virginia Power on Tuesday is expected to announce a “substantial” donation to Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge as part of Virginia State Park system’s 75th Anniversary.

The announcement will coincide with volunteers installing 20 new pieces of fitness equipment to create a fitness trail for seniors, said Dominion spokeswoman Le-Ha Anderson.

In addition, volunteers will reconstruct a set of stairs and railing in one the parking lots, replace playground equipment with new equipment, build new picnic sites and refurbish the volleyball area.

At noon Tuesday, officials are expected to present the donation at a ceremony inside the park.

Leesylvania State Park boarders the Potomac River, sits off Neabsco Road, off Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. 1) in Woodbridge and opened in 1992.

The father of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, Henry Lee III (Light Horse Harry) was born on the land during colonial times.
