Update 1:45 p.m. Tuesday
The man who was shot in Dumfries on Monday night after a drug bust gone bad has been identified.

Police say 38-year-old Henry Pierre Allen, of Landover, Md., was taken to a local hospital after he was shot by an ATF agent Monday night.

Allen is expected to make a full recovery, but has been charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and with felony eluding, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

His court date was not released.

A source told PotomacLocal.com Allen was shot in his stomach, and that the black BMW that he was driving appeared to have been hit by both shotgun and smaller caliber gunfire.

An ATF spokesman said undercover agents attempted to purchase drugs from the suspect, but the man fled as agents moved in to make an arrest.

Agents chased the suspect to the area of Va. 234 and I-95, stopped him briefly, but opened fire when agents feared the suspect would run them down with his car.

Update 11 p.m.

One man is in the hospital tonight after he was shot by a federal agent.

The unidentified victim tried to sell drugs to undercover ATF agent Monday night, and when other agents moved in to make an arrest the man sped off in his car and police gave chase, officials said.

The pursued the suspect along Dumfries Road (Va. 234) until they came to the intersection of Interstate 95.

Agents were able to stop the man, but not for long as it appeared he would run down the agents with his car, and that’s when they opened fire on the suspect, said ATF spokesman Mike Campbell.

The victim’s condition remained unknown late Monday night.

Campbell said the undercover drug operation took place nearby Dumfries, but wasn’t able to provide an exact address.

The scene of the shooting was extensive, as local police closed a portion of southbound Va. 234 and rerouted cars in both the north and southbound directions on one side of the six-lane highway.

Onlookers peered over toward the scene as undercover federal agents donned in black masks huddled behind police tape.

Campbell said more information about what happened here Monday night would be made available Tuesday.
