My Piece: No Call for Raising Wild Animals with Children

I love to watch wild animals on television and see them at the zoo.

I also love children.  However, just because I happen to love them both, doesn’t mean I think they should live together.  I’ve recently come across a program on one of the cable channels called “Fatal Attractions.”

I am dumbfounded by some of the stories featured on the program, but even more astounded at the sheer number of idiots out there that think somehow raising kids and wild animals together is a great idea.

I can hear it over the breakfast table, right now; “Hey Marge, we should get a pet to raise along with the baby.”

“Great idea let’s get a fresh-water crocodile” (agreed by many experts to be the most nasty and vicious wild animal on the planet).  “Sure or better yet, let’s get a baby cat that’ll grow up to weigh 600 pounds and have 6 inch teeth and 4 inch, razor sharp claws.”  “We can probably get Mr. Fuddly to make us a deal on live chickens to feed it!”

What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

Look, if you want your kids to be introduced to wild animals, take them on safari.  Take them to the circus.  Take them to the zoo.  DON’T go out and buy a tiger cub to raise as a house pet!

Well, that’s my piece and I’m stickin’ to it.  If you’d like to respond, please avail yourself of the space below, or shoot me an email.

David N. Britt covers the interesting, offbeat and entertaining happenings that you would write about if he wasn’t already doing it for you.
