It wasn’t the amount of money they had hoped to raise for two children who’ve lost both biological parents and have a dream of going to college, but organizers say the experience was worth it.
A fundraiser was held last night at the K2 Restaurant and Lounge in Woodbridge for two high school students, Kevin, 14, and Christie, 16, who recently lost their mother to skin cancer. The children also lost their biological father to a heart attack when they were younger, family friends said.
Organizers say they netted $1,000 for both students – $500 donated from profits at the restaurant and $500 donated from Lovebycupcakes.com, the local business that sponsored the event.
Left only for their step father to care for them, the benefit was held to raise at least $1,500 for the children.
While there is talk of possibly holding another fundraiser at the same restaurant, those who wish to donate can do so by donating to:
