Search still on for suspect after school lock downs

Update 1 p.m.
Sheriff’s deputies in have yet to catch the man who eluded them this morning in North Stafford.

Authorities stopped a man this morning in the parking lot of North Stafford High School, but the man got out of the car and fled on foot.

That sent sheriff’s deputies searching for the man, and the high school and another nearby elementary school on a temporary partial lock down.

Update 9:10 a.m.
The driver who was stopped this morning on Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) jumped out of his car and eluded sheriff’s deputies forcing the partial lock down of two schools, authorities say.

The deputy stopped the driver in the parking lot of North Stafford High School, but the driver jumped out of the car and sheriff’s deputies set up a search perimeter around the school, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Another nearby school, Park Ridge Elementary, was placed on partial lock down.

The restrictions were lifted at 7:35 a.m. once all students had made it into the buildings, said Kennedy.

Deputies are still looking for the driver who’s described as black, 6 feet tall, wearing a multi-color stocking cap, an olive green jacket and baggy jeans.

North Stafford, Va. ––
Two schools in North Stafford have been reopened this morning after being placed on partial lock down.

North Stafford High and Park Ridge Elementary schools were placed on a partial lock down about 7:30 a.m. after sheriff’s deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Parkway Boulevard, off Garrisonville Road (Va. 610).

The unidentified driver of the vehicle fled on foot, prompting deputies to begin searching for the driver.

During the partial lock down, administrators kept students inside of the schools buildings.

“We don’t know why the person bailed from the car, but we do have deputies in the area who are searching for the driver,” said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

No charges have been placed on the driver, and it’s still not clear why the driver was stopped by sheriff’s authorities.
