Woodbridge, Va. –– Starting on Monday, Slugs headed to Washington may continue to use the commuter lot at Potomac Mills mall. Everyone else needs to go to Dale City.
That was the official word late Sunday afternoon in an email from Woodbridge District Supervisor Frank J. Principi, which directed commuters who Slug to Rosslyn or to the Pentagon to begin parking at a commuter lot on Gemini Way in Dale City, behind the Giant at Center Plaza off Dale Boulevard.
Commuters are to enter the parking lot on Gemini Way from the entrance closest to Dale Boulevard, near the Comcast building.
More to the Story: See the changes to the Rosslyn and Pentagon Slug lines illustrated on our Commuter Parking Lots in the Potomac Communities Map. Zoom into the Dale City area and look for the red exclamation points.
Slugs headed to Rosslyn are to form their line near the middle of the parking lot while Slugs headed to the Pentagon should form a line on the curb in the lot near the street, the email stated.
When commuters leave the lot, officials recommend turning left onto Gemini Way and then turning onto Dale Boulevard at the traffic signal.
The changes come because beginning Monday the number of commuter parking spaces at Potomac Mills mall will be reduced from 1,000 to 275.
The decision to reduce commuter parking has sparked outcry from residents and sent elected leaders and county transportation leaders scrambling to find a solution to the commuter parking shortage.
While solutions like leasing spaces from a nearby church to building new commuter parking at the Horner Road commuter lot in Woodbridge have been discussed, no permanent solution to add additional commuter parking in the area has been announced.
Slugs are commuters who ride in vehicles of three or more to use the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes on Interstate 95 and 395.
