Stafford, Va. –– Two Woodbridge men were busted in connection to two moonshine stills, one of them uncovered in Stafford County.
An extensive investigation involving Virginia ABC agents and Stafford sheriff’s investigators uncovered a man who provided them information about the sale of a moonshine still, its operation, and about the 196 proof alcohol it produced.
Investigators learned about the still on the Craigslist website.
Undercover investigators went to purchase one of the stills for sale in Stafford and obtained a sample of its alcohol.
Afterward, the owner of the Stafford still was arrested.
While that arrest was taking place, investigators with arrest warrants in hand were searching a home in Woodbridge where still’s alleged owners lived.
While there they arrested another man, seized another, larger moonshine still, marijuana and a handgun, investigators said.
Lee Joseph Chraska was arrested in Stafford, and also charged in Prince William County for the illegal manufacturing of alcohol that allegedly took place at his residence, police say.
Joseph Allen Chraska, arrested at the house in Woodbridge, and was also charged.
Both suspects were released on bond.
It is illegal to posses equipment to manufacture moonshine in Virginia.
