A winter storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Potomac Communities.
Five to 10 inches of snow could fall across the region tonight and into the overnight hours, making it a rough go for afternoon commuters.
A mix of rain and snow that is expected to begin falling this afternoon will quickly change over to all snow.
It’ll all be out of here by midnight, according to the NWS.

Wintry precipitation has moved into the region and more is expected by this afternoon.
Right now, a mix of rain, sleet and snow appears to be falling across the Potomac Communities and the National Weather Service has winter weather advisory has been issued for the area during the morning hours.
But the big action with this storm should pick up later this afternoon into the evening, when snow should begin falling – up to five inches of snow in some places – between 6 p.m. and midnight.
Schools in Fairfax and Prince William counties have already closed for the day.
