Fairfax County, Va. –– Drivers on Interstate 95 today will have a new exit ramp to use in Fairfax County.
The ramp at mile post 166B south from the highway onto Fairfax County Parkway will reopen this afternoon, making travel easier for those headed to the northern section of Ft. Belvoir Army Base.
At 9 a.m., crews will close the right lane of I-95 south between Springfield-Franconia Parkway and Fairfax County Parkway. At noon, crews will remove traffic control devices put in place in November 2009, when the ramp closed to traffic, and plan to have the improved ramp open by 1:30 p.m.
The ramp will offer motorists two options: Fairfax County Parkway on the left, or the newly opened Heller Road on the right, which goes into the Fort Belvoir North Area. This is where the National Geospatial Agency (NGA) is located. On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the NGA will begin admitting new employees.
VDOT closed Exit 166B in November 2009 so crews could widen the existing bridge and ramp to handle increased traffic to the new Fairfax County Parkway segment and the NGA, which is part of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) developments in the area. Another NGA access at Barta Road and the Fairfax County Parkway will open on January 7.
This ramp was part of the initial two phases of Fairfax County Parkway Extension construction that opened in mid-September. Work remaining on the parkway project includes the Boudinot Drive ramp and loop and the realignment of Rolling and Hooes roads.

After almost 40 years in practice, Manassas-based Internist John Cary, MD’s change to concierge medicine enabled focused attention for each individual, and the launch of his innovative diet program for those with type 2 diabetes. “The goal is to promote enough weight loss to reach an acceptable A1C of 6% with no medication,” he explains. “Achieving that can take several months of very close follow up. As I tell my patients, we are in this together.”
Jay Tyroler, MD considers his patients quite literally as family. “I believe there’s nothing more honorable than helping patients when they’re sick, or scared, or feeling vulnerable, and I care for them exactly as I would my loved ones.” Whether for a specialist referral, urgent health issue or ongoing follow up, “My patients know I’m always just a phone call away.”
