Wittman wins

Fredericksburg, Va. –– Republican incumbent Robert J. Wittman will return to congress in January.

The man who represents Virginia’s sprawling 1st District, from Stafford to Williamsburg, took an early lead in the polls Tuesday night.

By 8:20 p.m., had a commanding lead over his Democratic challenger, Krystal M. Ball, with more 30,000 votes.

During his acceptance speech, Wittman said “public service is a ‘we business,’ not a ‘me business.’”

“I look at my position as serving you and you all believing the same things that all the folks in America’s first district believe in, and we put those ideas out there…and as we got through this job interview – which is what it is every two years – we put those ideas forward, and say this is what we’ve done, and these are the ideas that we’d like to use to go back (to Washington).”

Wittman says his main legislative focus will be on improving the economy and helping to put residents in his district back to work.

At 28-years-old, this was Ball’s first foray into politics.

In recent weeks she became better known for a series of sexually suggestive photos than her position on issues.

But Wittman never addressed the photos, but said it was good that she decided to challenge him for the house seat.

“It’s good to be part of the process. It’s good to run at every level, whether it’s the local level, state level or federal level. People can look at this win and see that it’s good to be part of the process, and hopefully this is what this win conveys” he said.
