FBI: Pentagon, Marine museum shootings linked

Triangle, Va. –– Investigators now say the same gun that was used to shoot at the National Museum of the Marine Corps was also used to shoot at the Pentagon.

And now the FBI is investigating a third shooting at a Marine Corps Recruiting Center that took place overnight in Chantilly.

Ballistics testing is underway at the Marine facility and there are no reports of injuries.

FBI officials have not said what type of weapon or what caliber of ammunition was used at each of the shootings.

The latest shooting comes one week after shots were fired at both the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle and at the Pentagon.

No one was injured in either shooting, but bullets left large holes in the glass at the Marine museum in the early morning hours of Oct. 17.

At the Pentagon, shots presumably struck the building about 5 a.m. Oct. 19, forcing a brief lock down of the Pentagon reservation and a subsequent search of Interstate 395 for bullet casings.

Police in Prince William County on Friday also conducted a similar search of Interstate 95.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is now leading the investigation.

The task force includes the police departments from the Pentagon, Fairfax and Prince William counties.
