Charges filed in ankle shooting

Lavon Poynter, 31, is charged in a Dale City shooting that left one man injured. (Submitted)

Dale City, Va. –– One man faces charges after another man was shot in the foot Friday, police say.

Lavon Poynter, 31, is charged with malicious wounding, maliciously shooting into an occupied dwelling and with use of a firearm in commission of a felony, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The arrest was made Friday following the shooting, on the same street where the shooting was reported, in the 4700 block of Hersand Street in Dale City.

The victim was shot in the ankle, about 7:34 a.m. Friday, after one man began shooting at the victim’s home, said police.

Two people were inside the home at the time of the shooting, and the gunman was outside the house.

The victim was flown to an area hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said Perok.

Police did not say what sparked the shooting.

Poynter was held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 30.
