The rain is coming, but utility crews say they are ready for the storm.
The Potomac communities have been placed under flood a watch as the remnants of a tropical system moving up the East Coast from Florida has its sights set on our region.
The storm is expected to bring up to six inches of rain between this afternoon and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Crews with Dominion Virginia Power say they’re ready for whatever Mother Nature brings.
“We’ve been monitoring the storm and we expect the worst of it to hit to the east and into North Carolina,” said Dominion spokeswoman Le-Ha Anderson.
She says crews will be on stand-by through the night in case weather conditions deteriorate.
Public safety officials in Stafford County are also calling in more hands because of the weather.
“We will be increasing the staffing on our fire and rescue units, and [will be prepared to open] the Emergency Operations Center,” said county spokeswoman Cathy Riddle.
While the emergency operations center was not staffed at midday Wednesday, Riddle said a decision to staff the center would be made if weather conditions worsen.
The weather service has also warned those who live or work in coastal areas they may see flooding rains during the next 36 hours, putting those areas under a costal flood watch.
The weather clears up for the weekend, as sunny skies are expected on Saturday with temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s, and the same for Sunday.
