Residents urged to stay indoors

The heat has forced Stafford County officials to once more order code black conditions, prompting them to urge residents to stay indoors.

“The Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Department recommends that all park users heed this warning and stay out of the heat,” stated a county press release.

Officials have not cancelled park activities for the day, however, have said it is up to events’ organizers and coaches to issue cancellations if they deem necessary.

At 2 p.m., the temperature at Regan Washington National Airport was 94 degrees. But it was the heat index that forecasters said could make it feel as much as 104 degrees outside, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast through the reminder of the day.

Tomorrow, thunderstorms remain in the forecast while temperatures are once again expected to climb into the 90s, according to the weather service.

On Friday, the air won’t feel as hot, as a high temperature of 85 has been forecasted.
