Gov’t employee charged with assault

Prince William County, Va. –– A Prince William County Government employee was arrested Monday on charges of assault and battery, police said.

Police say the 47-year-old male victim from Manassas said he and the female suspect were involved in an argument which escalated at 6:27 p.m. Monday, in the 8100 block of Porter Ridge Lane in the Prince William County section of Manassas.

During the dispute, the victim told police the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened the victim, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok. (more…)

Man found at Metro station shot himself

Fairfax County, Va. –– Police in Fairfax County say a man who was found in the parking lot of a Metro station earlier this month suffering a gunshot wound shot himself.

The 32-year-old victim was found by police in Alexandria at 10:24 p.m. Oct. 4, at the Huntington Station on Metro’s Yellow line, suffering a gunshot wound to his lower body, police said. (more…)

Dale City, Va. –– One man faces charges after another man was shot in the foot Friday, police say.

Lavon Poynter, 31, is charged with malicious wounding, maliciously shooting into an occupied dwelling and with use of a firearm in commission of a felony, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The arrest was made Friday following the shooting, on the same street where the shooting was reported, in the 4700 block of Hersand Street in Dale City. (more…)

North Stafford, Va. –– One man is behind bars today after an early-morning shooting at a North Stafford commuter lot.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the lot off Staffordboro Boulevard and Va. 610 just before 1 a.m. Friday, after a man told a 911 dispatcher that the husband of the woman he was seeing shot at him.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim had fled the scene, and the alleged shooter and his wife had also left, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Before the shooting, the victim and a female were sitting in their respective cars in the commuter lot, talking with each other. (more…)

Man shot in foot

Dale City, Va. –– A man was shot in the foot this morning in Dale City.

Two men had been arguing when the shooting occurred, and then one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other in the foot, according to News & Messenger.

The shooting happened about 7:30 a.m., and police have the alleged shooter in custody.

Doughnut shop burglar, shooting keep police busy

Lake Ridge, Va. –– A man with a baseball bat who police say climbed through the drive through window of a Dunkin Donuts, a shooting into a home and a home break in kept officers in Woodbridge busy this week.

At 1:55 a.m. Thursday, an employee at the doughnut restaurant on Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge told police he saw a man with a walk up to the window.

That employee ran from the window to the parking lot, and the man then climbed in, took an undisclosed amount of cash, and then fled the scene with two other men who were waiting outside in a car, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Police said two of the men were wearing ski masks, black jackets and blue latex gloves. A witness could not provide a description for the third man, police said. (more…)

Stafford mounts gang crackdown

Stafford County, Va. –– Officials in Stafford County spent the summer cracking down on illegal gang activity, netting more than 51 felony, and 15 misdemeanor arrest warrants and petitions.

The county’s sheriff’s department so far has arrested 13 juveniles, ranging in age from 14 to 17-years-old, and six adults, on charges stemming from robberies, assaults by mob, brandishing firearms and gang participation, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

The crackdown comes as sheriff’s deputies have noted an increase in gang activity over the past year. In response to the increase, a special sheriff’s office unit was created to deal with the problem. (more…)

Update 3:30 p.m. – Murder victim identified

Police now say it was a domestic dispute the led to the death of a Falls Church woman Wednesday night in a Springfield restaurant.

Tieu L. Nguyet, 37, of 3235 Kenny Drive was killed in a knife attack, said Fairfax County police.

She died after she suffered trauma to her upper body.

Police have charged 40-year-old Lam Dang, of 6801 Floyd Avenue in Springfield, with murder in connection to her death. (more…)

Shots fired at shopping center

Dumfries, Va. –– One man fired a gun at a Dumfries shopping center on Tuesday, police said.

Witnesses called police to report someone had opened fire at Fortuna Center Plaza, in front of the Shoppers Food Warehouse at 4:33 p.m., said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

No one was injured, but a preliminary investigation found that two men had been driving around the parking lot of the shopping plaza when one jumped out of the car, and then fired the gun. (more…)

Woman e-mailed, then sexually assaulted

Woodbridge, Va. –– Police have investigated a possible connection between a series of sexually explicit e-mails and a sexual assault.

ABC 7 News reports a 21-year-old woman had just walked inside of her home in the 3000 block of Fox Lair Drive in Woodbridge, about 3:10 a.m. Sept. 22, when a man forced his way in behind her and sexually assaulted her.

That man got away, and is said to have been 6 feet 2 inches tall with a heavy build.

After the assault, the victim told police about the sexually explicit e-mails she had received, which propositioned her for sexual photos. (more…)

Guilty plea entered in Popeye’s slaying

Woodbridge, Va. –– The man charged in the 2008 murder of a fast food manager pleaded guilty this morning.

According to News & Messenger, Daniel Lipscomb, 28, pleaded gulty of abduction this morning in Prince William County court, and the judge accepted. That clears the way for him to be sentenced to five years in prison.

Lipscomb was charged after he entered the Popeye’s Chicken restaurant in Smoketown Plaza in Woodbridge on Jan. 22, 2008, demanded cash from the 23-year-old manager, and shot the manager in the head when he told Lipscomb he couldn’t open the safe, police originally reported.

The victim was rushed to Potomac Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Dumfries body identified as homeless man

Dumfries, Va. –– The body found behind a Dumfries shopping plaza this week is that of a homeless man.

Kenneth Michael Hostetter, 66, was found behind a closed restaurant in the Triangle Shopping Plaza on Wednesday.

Investigators told News & Messenger they do not suspect foul play, and that the body was so badly decomposed police had to bring in a forensic anthropologist to identify the remains.

Those who had met Hostetter said he was a man of very limited financial means. (more…)

Body found behind old restaurant

Dumfries, Va. –– A badly decomposed body was found behind an old restaurant in Dumfries, according to News & Messenger.

Prince William County Police did not return a request for comment on this story, but News & Messenger reports the body was found behind the old True Grit restaurant in the Triangle Shopping Plaza.

A specialist was called into help identify the badly decomposed body, and police say the death does not appear to be suspicious, according to News & Messenger.

The body was found early Wednesday morning, and investigators suspect the body had been behind the old restaurant for at least two months.

North Stafford, Va, –– It was an armed robbery at a Sunoco gas station in North Stafford that sent K9 units searching a neighborhood and a nearby shopping plaza as others looked on.

The Stafford sheriff’s office on Thursday released the details of an armed robbery that happened at the gas station, at 488 Garrisonville Road (Va. 610), about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

A man walked into the gas station with a handgun in his right hand and placed a backpack on the counter. He then told the clerk to fill it with cash, and when the clerk did, the man calmly walked out of the store and went in the direction of Center Street, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. Police: Victim slapped, robbed

Fairfax County, Va. –– A Woodbridge man has been charged in connection to a robbery at a Springfield shopping plaza.

On Sunday, a 28-year-old man flagged down a police officer and told him that a man slapped him and then demanded that he hand over all of his cash, said Fairfax police spokesman Richard Henry.

The victim did as he was told and handed over the cash, and the alleged robber fled the scene.

But police today are crediting a fast police response with being able to apprehend their suspect. (more…)

Hungry robber takes food, cash

North Stafford, Va. –– One man took $5 and a lot of pizza from a delivery driver on Monday, sheriff’s officials said.

The robbery happened about 8 p.m., in the 500 block of Lakewood Drive in North Stafford, near Stafford Marketplace on Va. 610.

The driver, who was working for Dominos Pizza, went to the address to deliver a lot of pizza, sub sandwiches and wings.

When he arrived, a man met him, brandished a knife, and demanded the victim hand over all of the food and money he had on him, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. (more…)

Marines warn Salvia use is illegal

Quantico, Va. ––  Officials at Quantico are cracking down on the use of a substance that when smoked mimics the affects of marijuana.

Base commanders call the drugs “Spice,” or K2,” which contain synthetic compounds that mirror THC – the psychotropic agent found in pot.

The drugs are made with Salvia divinorum, a naturally occurring plant and was sold in tobacco shops in Virginia until it was banned by the General Assembly in 2008.

At that time, Virginia joined a handful of states that forbid the sale of the plant – which has yet to be banned on a federal level. (more…)

North Stafford, Va. –– Sheriff’s deputies swarmed a Sunoco gas station in North Stafford on Saturday night.

Officials about 10:30 p.m. offered no comment as to why they cordoned off the gas station’s parking lot with crime scene tape, or why K9 units were searching the rear of the building in front of onlookers. (more…)

Woman attacked in Lorton

Lorton, Va. –– A woman told police a man tried to steal her purse, and now investigators have asked Lorton residents to keep an eye out for the would-be thief.

The victim was walking to her home in the 9400 block of Cherwek Drive, just off U.S. 1, at 8:50 p.m. Sept. 15, when a man approached her and grabbed her purse, said Fairfax police Franconia District spokesman Richard Henry on Thursday.

The purse was hanging around the woman’s neck by its strap, which prevented the man from taking it.

But a struggle ensued during the attempted theft, and the man grabbed the woman by the shoulder and threw her to the ground, said Henry. (more…)

The shooting victims from Saturday morning’s murder-suicide in Montclair have been identified as 42-year-old Robert Bates from Nokesville, and 38-year-old Jennifer Bates, according to the Associated Press.

The two were killed this morning after they stepped out of the SUV they were riding in, on Widewater Drive, had an argument and Robert Bates shot Jennifer Bates in the upper body, according to police.

The man then shot himself in the head. (more…)

3 charged in Craigslist robberies

Stafford County, Va. – Three men now face charges in a string of apparent Craigslist robberies, investigators say.

The attempted robberies date back to July 18, when two different victims were told to meet the suspects at a predetermined location in Stafford to pay for an iPhone and Playstation 3 the victims thought they had purchased on the popular trade services Web site, Craigslist, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
