QUANTICO, Va. – The former defense secretary Robert Gates will sign copies of the his new book at Quantico on Friday.

The memoir, “Duty: Memories from a Secretary at War” hit bookstores last week amidst a flurry of controversy after the book criticized President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden on their actions during the administration’s inherited wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gates served as secretary of defense for presidents dating back to Richard Nixon until Obama, with the exception of Bill Clinton. We wrote that Obama had serious doubts about the war and its mission, and that Biden of being engaged in “aggressive, suspicious, and sometimes condescending and insulting questioning of our military leaders.”
