Dale City, Va. –– A woman apparently did not want to surrender her dog, and an animal control officer was injured in the process of trying to take it from her.

Officers were called to the 14800 block of Cloverdale Road in Dale City at 4:29 p.m. Friday to take custody of a dog. Police did not say why they were trying to take the dog nor did they say what breed it was.

But the dog’s owner became combative, and officers then tried to arrest her. She resisted and then burned one of the officers with a lit cigarette, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The woman was eventually taken into custody and the officer suffered minor injuries.

Porsche Yevette Bealle, 27, of Cloverdale Road in Dale City, is charged with assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and with resisting arrest, said Perok.

Police did not release her court date, but the Bealle was released on $2,000 bond.
