State police: Fatal crash victim was 20, not 10

Update 9: 10 a.m.

Virginia State Police on Thursday morning said the victim in Wednesday night’s fatal crash on Interstate 95 was 20-year-old Breauna Woolen, of Woodbridge.

Officials originally said Woolen was 10-years-old, but amended details about the victim just after 9 a.m. Thursday.

The victim was died instantly when the SUV she was riding in flipped over and crash into a Jersey wall, police say.

Fairfax County, Va. –– A woman was killed in a crash that brought traffic on Interstate 95 north to a halt Wednesday night.

Breauna Woolen, 20, of Woodbridge, was killed when the SUV she was riding in flipped over, crossed three lanes of traffic and landed on a Jersey wall, near Springfield.

Woolen was ejected from the vehicle and killed instantly.

The driver, 37-year-old Ashante Townes, of Woodbridge, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, said Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller.

Townes and Woolen were the only two occupants of the vehicle.

No other cars were involved in the crash.

Police say Townes,  the woman’s mother, lost control of the SUV at 7:08 p.m., while he was driving in the northbound lanes at mile post 166 near Newington.

Following the crash, state police closed all northbound lanes of I-95.

An accident reconstruction crew was called to the scene to investigate.

The southbound portion of the highway remained open during the investigation.
