The Prince William County Animal Shelter will host its annual Open House on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, from Noon to 4 p.m. The Shelter is located at 14807 Bristow Road [near] Manassas (20112).
The event includes a rabies clinic, sponsored by the Prince William Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PWSPCA). Bring your dogs and cats to get a rabies vaccine and certificate for just $10 per animal. This clinic will run from 1 to 3 p.m.
For the safety of everyone, all dogs that attend must be on a leash; all cats that attend must be in carriers. There will be children’s activities, vendors, veterinarians and pet-and rescue groups as well as local businesses.
There will also be numerous raffle items on offer – each person gets one free ticket; additional tickets are available for sale. Food will also be available for purchase from Dave’s Dogs. Best of all, the Shelter will have animals for adoption.

DUMFRIES — Pets rescued from Hurrican Irma are looking for new homes in our area.
The Prince William Humane Society worked to bring 28 dogs and 16 cats from hurricane-ravaged Florida to the county’s animal shelter, and to its adoption center in Dumfries.
The pets were in animal shelters in Florida but were evacuated along with residents before the category three storm’s landfall on Sunday afternoon.
“A lot of them are scared because of what they’ve been through. There’s a lot of barking going on,” said Prince William Humane Society Center Manager Jill Gregory. “They’re sweet, and I’ve never seen a group of animals so aware of being brought to safety.”
Many of the animals came to Prince William with no medical records. A group of 12 kittens all came with severe upper respiratory infections and are being treated at Minnieville Animal Hospital.
Many of the animals are not spayed or neutered. All of them will be treated so that they can be ready for adoption, added Gregory. The animals will become available for adoption in the coming weeks after they are treated.
The animals will be divided between the Prince William County Animal Shelter, located at 14087 Bristow Road, and the county headquarters for the Human Society at 17983 Dumfries Shopping Plaza in Dumfries.
STAFFORD — Dog owners in Stafford County get a break.
Instead of purchasing an annual dog license for $10, residents may now purchase a lifetime license for Fido.
The one-time cost: $10.
Dogs over the aged four months or older must have the dog licesnse, according to county documents. Or, dog owners must get a license within 30 days of their animal’s rabies vaccination.
The county will continue to issue metal tags as proof of purchase for the license, which dogs must wear at all times, according to county documents.
The move comes after Virginia legislators earlier this year change a law and allowed localities to charge a lifetime dog license fee ranging between $10 and $50 per dog. Read More
Spotsylvania Animal shelter has a furbaby in need of a forever family. Goofy is a hound mix, about a year and a half, and is neutered.
Here’s a little about Goofy:
Goofy is still waiting for his forever family to come along. Goofy is a young pup, good with other dogs, has lived with cats around but is mouthy so needs older children and some training to break that bad habit. Please consider coming to meet/adopt him today before 4 p.m.

His name is Reggie. He’s about 2-3 years old! Very energetic and playful!
Gets along great with other dogs, but we aren’t sure about kitties. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccines. He was found as a stray so we aren’t sure if he is housebroken or not.
Reggie also does better with older children as he can get a little rough with little ones when he plays

Patty is a beautiful, six year old girl that is desperately searching for a permanent home. She has been through a lot this past year and has been abandoned several times now. Patty is extremely sweet and affectionate but she does need to be the only pet in her new home. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.
