Arrest made in GNC robbery

North Stafford, Va. –– The man suspected of robbing at GNC store in North Stafford has been arrested in West Virginia.

Investigators obtained information that their suspect was in the Charles Town, WVa. area, then obtained arrest warrants and then found him at a restaurant there.

The suspect was a customer at the restaurant and was arrested at 1 a.m. Saturday by West Virginia State Police, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

The arrest stems from the armed robbery of a GNC Services store on Mine Road on Feb. 8.

During the robbery, a man walked into the store, pointed a handgun and then forced an employee and a customer to get on the ground and threatened to shoot them, said Kennedy.

The man made off with an undisclosed sum of cash. (more…)

Bus struck during police chase

Lorton, Va. –– One man faces reckless driving and DWI charges following a police pursuit on U.S. 1.

A Fairfax County police officer saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly in the area of U.S. 1 and Pohick Road about 9 p.m. Sunday.

The car struck the rear of the officer’s police cruiser, which prompted the officer to pursue the driver, said Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell. (more…)

Brothers charged in moonshine case

Stafford, Va. –– Two Woodbridge men were busted in connection to two moonshine stills, one of them uncovered in Stafford County.

An extensive investigation involving Virginia ABC agents and Stafford sheriff’s investigators uncovered a man who provided them information about the sale of a moonshine still, its operation, and about the 196 proof alcohol it produced.

Investigators learned about the still on the Craigslist website. (more…)

Girl, 11, stalked at mall, say police

Woodrbridge, Va. –– Prince William police said a 66-year-old man inappropriately touched an 11-year-old girl at Potomac Mills mall.

On February 10th at 3:28PM, police responded to Potomac Mills Mall located at 2700 Potomac Mills Cl in Woodbridge (22192) for a suspicious person. The investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly been following the victim around the mall. The accused then allegedly rubbed up against an 11 year old girl as she was in one of the stores within the mall. No injuries were reported. The accused was located and charged.

Doctor faces 5 charges in sex cases

Woodbridge, Va. –– Police say three women were the victims of one doctor’s unwanted sexual advances, and in one case a woman was sexually assaulted.

The doctor inappropriately touched three separate victims – all adult women – on three different occasions last year, in his office at 2000 Optiz Boulevard in Woodbridge.

The alleged instances took place in March, September and December, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

In the September incident, a 52-year-old woman from Stafford was sexually assaulted, and In the March and December incident, the accused tried to kiss the victims – a 37-year-old woman from Lorton and a 37-year-old woman from Stafford, said Perok. (more…)

Cash taken in brazen robbery

North Stafford, Va. –– The robber walked into the store, pointed a gun at a female employee and an customer and threatened to shoot them if they moved, sheriff’s authorities say.

It happened at a GNC Services store at 44 Mine Road in North Stafford at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday.

The employee was working with a customer when the brazen robber walked in and pointed his gun.

Both the employee and the customer did as they were told and got onto the ground and the robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

The man was seen fleeing the store in a maroon or silver-colored SUV.

He is described as white, between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, in his early 20s, 160 to 180 pounds, wearing light colored cargo pants, a white t-shirt and a light gray hooded sweatshirt, said Kennedy. (more…)

Girl, 12, raped, police say

Dale City, Va. –– Police say one man abused and raped a 12-year-old girl.

Officers on Monday night were called to the 14800 block of Dixon Court in Dale City to investigate the rape claim.

When they arrived, they learned the victim had been abused and sexually assaulted, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she received medical treatment.

Police said the accused and the victim were acquaintances. (more…)

2 charged in Montclair burglaries

Montclair, Va. –– Police say a man has been charged in a series of brazen burglaries in Montclair.

Officers in Dinwiddie County, Va. in December stopped a man who was driving a stolen car and was in possession of items that were reported stolen from Prince William County.

The items were connected to a series of burglaries at a home in the 15800 block of Edgewood Drive in Montclair in November and December 2010.

Police said a man entered the home through a garage door and then though an unlocked door that led into the house while the owners were asleep. (more…)

Car stolen, others broken into on same street

North Stafford, Va. –– A car was stolen and several others broken into in the Sunnydale Meadows neighborhood in North Stafford.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to Westminster Lane just off Staffordboro Boulevard at 5:15 a.m. Thursday after someone reported their 4-door maroon Toyota Tercel stolen.

Its owner drove it home Wednesday night, woke up Thursday and found it missing, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. (more…)

Fire fighter to be sentenced today

The case of accused Prince William County fire fighter Robert McParland has been continued for a fourth time, according to Virginia online court records.

McParland is scheduled to appear in a Prince William County courthouse at 9 a.m. Feb. 18.

According to court records, he was to be sentenced today for a DUI charge he received in December.

Robert McParland, 49, a veteran member of the Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue was charged Dec.18 with driving under the influence in the Manassas area, according to police. (more…)

Woodbridge, Va. –– One woman who lives in Woodbridge is charged with felony child abuse.

Police said the accused was caring for a six-month-old girl at a home in the 13500 block of Woodvale Court in Woodbridge on Monday.

The child suffered injuries to her head that appeared to be non-life threatening, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Chu My Ngo, 39, of 13514 Woodvale Court in Woodbridge is charged in the case, said Perok.

She was released on bond.

Sheriff: Pursuit leads to drunken man

Stafford County, Va. –– Authorities say the 76-year-old man they arrested Tuesday has a habit of drunken driving.

A Stafford sheriff’s deputy was flagged down at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday by a driver who said they saw someone in a blue Ford F-150 pickup swerving into oncoming traffic while traveling in the area of U.S. in North Stafford.

The deputy later caught up with the truck, saw the driver swerving in and out of traffic and nearly colliding with oncoming cars, and then stopped the driver at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Telegraph Road in Boswell’s Corner, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy. (more…)

Body found in Mt. Vernon apartment

Update 4 p.m.
The man found dead inside a Mt. Vernon-area apartment on Monday has been identified as 55-year-old Kenneth J. Russell. Investigators delayed releasing his identification until after the victim’s next of kin had been notified.

Russell’s long-time roommate, 47-year-old Calvin John, has been charged in Russell’s death.

Update 11 a.m.
One man faces a murder charge in the death of a unidentified man who lived in Mt. Vernon.

Calvin Johnson, 47, is charged in connection to the victim. Police say they have been roommates for many years.

Johnson called police Monday afternoon and reported the crime, said Fairfax County police spokesman Bud Walker.

When police arrived at the scene, an apartment at 7554 Audubon Avenue #101, they discovered the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body.

Police have not offered a motive for the killing, but say they are having problems reaching the victim’s next of kin. When they do, police plan to release the identity of the victim, said Walker. (more…)

Intruder grabs woman in home

Woodbridge, Va. –– A woman told police someone climbed through a window and grabbed her Sunday.

It happened at a home in the 1400 block of G Street in Woodbridge, near the St. Paul United Methodist Church at 5:39 a.m., police said.

The 36-year-old victim heard a noise, went to check it out and then saw her front door was ajar. She then saw someone opening a window in her living room, trying to get access to the house.

A man climbed halfway through the window and grabbed the woman, but she then struck the man several times with a lamp post which caused him to flee, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok. (more…)

Tires slashed in Dale City

Dale City, Va. –– Tires were slashed on about 20 cars in Dale City, and now police want to know who’s behind the vandalisms.

Police were called at 2:42 p.m. Thursday to the Glendale area of Dale City after someone reported the tire slashing.

At least 20 vehicles all parked on Glendale Road, Granby and Greenwood drives, all had their tires slashed, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Sex offender & former pastor gets probation

Jason Bolton plead guilty to taking indecent liberties with a child.

Dumfries, Va. –– A convicted sex offender was sentenced today to two years probation.

Jason Roy Bolton, a former pastor at a Woodbridge area Baptist church who plead guilty in October to taking indecent liberties with a minor, was sentenced to three years in jail with all three years suspended, according to Prince William County court records.

Bolton lives in Dumfries and his probation will be supervised, court records state.

Bolton was involved a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female in April 2010.

He was arrested and charged with sodomy in July.

Man’s throat cut following snowball toss

Lake Ridge, Va. –– One man threw a snowball at someone shoveling snow and had his throat cut, police say.

It happened at 4:21 a.m. Thursday in the 3800 block of Core Place in Lake Ridge.

The victim apparently threw a snowball at a man shoveling snow, then the man approached the victim, a fight ensured and the suspect pulled out a box cutter and slit the victim’s throat, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok. (more…)

D.C. police officer charged

Woodbridge, Va. –– A Metropolitan Police officer faces a charge in Prince William County.

Police were called on Sunday to the 2700 block of Brier Pond Circle near Dumfries for a report of shots fired. They arrested one man in connection to the incident, but now there’s word of another arrest in the case.

Joanne Nicole Marshall Ivy, 27, of Woodbridge was charged Tuesday with obstruction of justice after police say she provided false information to prevent being arrested.

Ivy is a police officer in Washington, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Her court date was not released.

One dead following stabbing

Fairfax County, Va. –– One man died two days after being stabbed in Springfield.

Police said 47-year-old Dennis Bryant of Arlington was stabbed during a physical altercation about 7 p.m. Friday in the 6700 block of Metropolitan Center Drive.

Police were called, and when they arrived found both the victim and the man he had been fighting with still on the scene.

Bryant was taken that night to an area hospital with injuries that appeared to be non-life threatening, said a Fairfax County police spokesman. (more…)

Carjacking arrest made

Woodbridge, Va. –– Police say they arrested a man who carjacked a woman in Woodbridge early Monday.

It’s one of three arrests in as many separate incidents that took place during the past two days.

The 35-year-old victim told police she had just started her car to let it warm up at Marumsco Plaza in Woodbridge at 12:01 a.m. Monday, when a man walked up and forced her from the car. (more…)

Former pastor to be sentenced

Jason Bolton plead guilty to taking indecent liberties with a child.

A former pastor at a Woodbridge church will be sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to taking indecent liberties with a child.

Jason Roy Bolton plead guilty to the charge in October.

He will be sentenced in a Prince William County courtroom at 1:30 p.m., according to court records.

Bolton was a pastor at Potomac Crest Baptist Church in Woodbridge.
