Manassas Museum announces April events

April brings more free book talks and outside adventures, with walking tours and bike tours of the City of Manassas.

From April through October take a Historic Downtown Walking Tour on Thursdays and Fridays at noon.  During the tour, costumed interpreters share stories about Historic Downtown during the Civil War and about the rebirth of the area after war and the fire.  Visit www.manassasmuseum.org<https://www.manassasmuseum.org> for more information.

On April 11 at 10 a.m. join a Manassas Museum Architectural Walking Tour and take the time to appreciate the history of the city’s diverse homes and businesses.  The tour will discuss the legends behind notable homes, businesses, and their owners, as well as observe the architectural styles in the historic district.  Visit www.manassasmuseum.org<https://www.manassasmuseum.org> for more information.

On April 14 at 10 a.m. children ages three to five and their caregivers may enjoy storytelling, crafts, songs, and outdoor exploration during the Pre-K Tuesday program at the Manassas Museum.  Visit www.manassasmuseum.org<https://www.manassasmuseum.org> for more information.

On April 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. explore the hidden corners of the City of Manassas on a Bicycle Tour given by the Manassas Museum.  The tours, held on the fourth Saturday of the month from March through May and August through October, focus on historic areas around Manassas. The tour, which begins at the Manassas Museum, is about two hours long and is $5 per person. Visit manassasmuseum.org or call 703-257-8453 for tickets, and bring your own bike.

On April 26 at 2 p.m. join Author Edward Longacre for a free book talk as he discusses his book The Early Morning of War, Bull Run 1861.  This book blends narrative andanalysis to describe First Manassas/Bull Run and capture the drama and suspense of the time. Longacre also uses biographical sketches to detail the backgrounds and personalities of both leading commanders and other soldiers in the conflict.

To celebrate Air Quality Awareness Week (May 6-10, 2024), Clean Air Partners is working with A Few Cool Hardware Stores to exchange DC, Maryland and Virginia residents’ gas-powered lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers at select Ace Hardware locations in the region. DMV residents who turn in their gas-powered lawn tools will receive a FREE Ego Power+ replacement including batteries and chargers, while supplies last.

Compared to gas, electric lawn equipment can reduce emissions, noise pollution, health risks and maintenance costs and time. The program aims to remove about a hundred gas-powered polluting tools from yards in the greater Baltimore-Washington region.

The exchanges will take place the weekends of May 17-19, 2024, and May 31-June 2, 2024, at A Few Cool Hardware Stores network of employee-owned Ace Hardware stores in the DC and Baltimore metro areas.
