Did you know you can return and refill your old olive oil and balsamic vinegar bottles for a discount, and go green at the same time?
Manassas Olive Oil customers can now return and recycle their used oil bottles.
“The glass bottles we give you, you can refill them as long as they’re brought back clean and dry and refilling them gives you a 10% discount,” said Manassas Olive Oil General Manager Cameron Thompson.
Manassas Olive Oil says recycling old bottles is better for the environment because it keeps empties out of landfills and off sides of the road.
Recycling bottles is also a cost saving measure because it eliminates the cost of having to purchase bottles, so, in return, the savings is passed on tho the customer.
“We have the three sizes; the 60 millimeters, 200 millimeters, and 375 millimeters,” said Thompson. “The only one we don’t refill is the 60 milliliter because those bottles are outright impossible to clean out effectively,” said Cameron.
Some customers do bring in empty 750-milliliter bottles, which are comparable to wine bottles, and they are also refillable. However, customers who want to participate in this program must bring bottles that come from Manassas Olive Oil with labels still attached.
“We get a lot of people bringing it [the bottle] back, and I think what drives people to bring it back is the discount because any way you can easily save a couple of bucks, people are going to do it,” said Thompson.
Cleaning out the bottles is painless and easy using soap and hot water.
Shaking the bottle well will ensure that all areas of the bottle are sufficiently cleaned out. Rinse out the bottle a few times, allow the bottle to air dry, and bring it to Manassas Olive Oil.
Customers may keep their corks and Manassas Olive Oil cap the refilled bottle with a new one. If they want, guests are also free to have their bottles refilled with new oils different from the original oil bottled, which is still eligible for the discount.
Manassas Olive Oil is located at Old Town Plaza 9406 Grant Avenue in Manassas.
