The American Heart Association program, funded by the Potomac Health Foundation, will host 3 events in the area
(Woodbridge, VA – February 20th, 2015) – The American Heart Association continues its program to train 8,500 local residents in Hands-Only CPR by hosting simultaneous events at three locations across Prince William County. Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, PHI Air Medical, and Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department will host simultaneous events on Thursday Feb. 26th from 7-9pm at the following locations:
Dale City Volunteer Fire Department
Station 13
13511 Hillendale Drive
Dale City, VA 22193
PHI Air Medical / AirCare
Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue / Coles District Volunteer Fire Station 6
13712 Dumfries Road
Manassas, VA 20112
Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department
Station 14
12400 Hedges Run Drive
Lake Ridge, VA 22192
The public is invited to attend these events, where participants will learn to save a life with Hands-Only CPR in only 30 minutes. The program will use the American Heart Association’s innovative CPR Anytime Kits, provided by the foundation grant. Participants who agree to train at least 4 other people, will receive a free CPR Anytime Kits, which contain an inflatable manikin and instructional DVD. The CPR Anytime instruction is not a certification program.
“The more people who are trained in CPR, the more lifesavers we have in communities who can act as first responders when citizens go into cardiac arrest,” said Jim McAllister, Chief at Occoquan-Woodbridge-Lorton Volunteer Fire Department. “By teaching people in every household Hands-Only CPR, and equipping them with CPR Anytime Kits to share with family & friends, we can create a more prepared community.”
Nearly 425,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur annually in the United States, and 89 percent of Americans die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. Hands-Only CPR is a quick, easy way to save more lives. If you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse, (1) Call 9-1-1; and (2) Push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Doing these compressions at the proper beat can more than double a person’s chances of survival; coincidentally, the proper beat matches the classic Bee Gees song “Stayin’ Alive.”
