Jacqueline Geschickter

Jacqueline Geschickter of 10800 Harley Rd in Lorton, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday January 4th after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her father Charles Freeman Geschickter, mother Mildred Clark Geschickter, and brother Edmond “Ned” Geschickter. She is survived by her brother Charles “Bunky” Geschickter, Jr. and 7 nieces and nephews.

Jackie attended Sidwell Friends Preparatory School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from American University. She worked until her retirement at the National Geographic Society where she rose to the position of editor of National Geographic World Magazine. After her departure she continued to pursue her passion for eighteenth century history, an interest that began as a young girl during her family vacations to Colonial Williamsburg. In her adult years Williamsburg constantly drew her back for inspiration and education. Her understanding of life in Virginia’s colonial and Early Republic period was surpassed by few.

Jackie was also a lover of the performing arts, a passion that began with her enjoyment of ice skating. She became an avid Balletomane.  For many years she was a frequent backstage visitor at American Ballet Theatre performances in New York along with season tickets to the Kennedy Center.  Ballet and Pilates classes were a mainstay throughout her adult life.

Above all, Jackie loved and was a fierce protector of her family farm where she was always comforted by the many dogs, including Emma, her last, who were her faithful companions throughout her life.

The family wishes to offer its gratitude to Jackie’s friends that provided supportive care during her brief illness, assistance to the family after her passing, and a home for her dog Emma.
Interment will be at Pohick Church Cemetery in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jackie’s honor may be made to the animal charity of the person’s choice.
