Carmelita Seymour Stansbury, 81, of Warsaw, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017. She was born in Washington, D.C. on December 24, 1935 and was raised in Alexandria, VA.
She moved to Woodbridge in the early 60’s and started Mrs. Seymour’s Preparatory Preschool around 1973. Carmelita remained the Director of the school until she retired to the Northern Neck (Bay Quarter Shores Area) in 1985 where she opened a small preschool until 1990, when her partner of the school and spouse of 37 years, William H. Seymour passed.
Years later she married Bernard Stansbury and moved to Warsaw. She and Bernard were married for 19 years until he passed in 2015. Her life was filled with much joy in teaching young children and spending time with friends and family.
Carmelita is survived by her daughter, Pateresa Seymour Ferreira; brother, Gregory Ronald Herring (Linda); sister, Georgena Herring Strawderman; grandchildren, Roxanna Seymour (Dennis) and Amanda Ferreira (Mike); and great-grandchildren, Jada Lyn Thomas, Jarell Delano Thomas, Jazlyn Denisse Martin, and Mekhi Harrison Jones.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Evelyn Herring; husbands, William H. Seymour and Bernard D. Stansbury; and son, George H. Seymour.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Welch Funeral Home- Marks Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Totuskey Baptist Church Audio Fund at PO Box 100 Haynesville, VA 22472.
