5 Questions with JTC, Inc. founder John Jewell

The office vacancy rate in Northern Virginia is 20%. You founded a company that helps people work remotely. Do you think that number will go up or down over the next year?

I say it will go up. I don’t see it going down. I think people are going to maintain their offices, and more employees are going to be working remotely.

You play guitar in a band. If you could play a set with somebody famous, dead or alive, who would it be?

That would be a dream come true. I would love to play guitars with Ronnie Lane, a guitar player for the “Small Faces.” He was a hell of a musician. He played bass guitar with Rod Stewart in the “Small Faces” band, later reincorporated into “Faces.” He passed away in 1997.

JTC is 20 years old next year. Looking back, what would you have done differently to get where you are today.

I would have begun delegating my daily tasks to others earlier. I think my success stems from the fact I hired people who are smarter than me. That allowed me to focus on the quality of our work. Instead of me trying to manage the help desk, the customer support, the accounting, I’ve got people who are much doing those things for me, and they’re better at it than I am.

If you could run your business from anywhere for two weeks, where would that be?

Naples, Florida. It’s always beautiful, and to me, it’s paradise.

A night out on the town for John Jewell: What does that look like?

Playing music and family and friends. Food, beer, wine. That’s a night on the town.

Jewell is the founder of JTC, Inc., a leading provider of technology-based business solutions to small and medium-sized businesses in the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. Metropolitan area.

Ten months ago, Jewell, an avid guitarist, joined the band Scarlett Awakening. The band just played its 15th gig at Sinistral Brewing Company in Downtown Manassas.
