MANASSAS – (Press Release) The Manassas City Police Department is now offering an “Exchange Zone.” The Exchange Zone is for residents who wish to meet each other and exchange items which have been bought or sold using online sites, or domestic child custody exchanges.
The Police Department has designated a clearly marked parking spot in front of the police station located at 9518 Fairview Ave.
The Exchange Zone is meant for person-to-person transactions. Property may not be dropped off and left unattended, and sellers are required to take their property with them if the buyer does not show up. The Exchange Zone is intended to give residents a safer environment for exchanges, but officers cannot stand-by while the exchanges are being conducted. Below are a few safety tips to keep in mind when conducting such transactions:
- Avoid going alone to make an exchange with a stranger
- Always let a friend or family member know the time and destination of your intended exchange
- Avoid giving strangers your personal information
- Avoid meeting in remote or out of the way places for exchanges
- Insist on meeting in a public area or an Exchange Zone location
- Complete the transaction during daylight hours
For more information about the “Exchange Zone” contact our Community Services Division at 703-257-8098.
