Jack Phalen

John Albert "Jack" Phalen, 88, was born in Harrisonburg, VA to James and Frances Phalen on May 15, 1929. He attended Harrisonburg Public Schools, and graduated from Madison College in 1952. Jack went on to earn a Masters of Counseling from UVA in 1954, and then a Masters of Education in 1974. He passed away on August 1, 2017 in Spotsylvania County, VA at Greenfield Assisted Living. He was a long-time member of All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas. There he participated as an RCIA sponsor, Eucharistic Minister, and Medical Missionaries volunteer. Jack was a long-time school counselor at Parkside and Marsteller Middle Schools. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Henry Phalen. Jack is survived by his sister, Peggy Phalen Colangelo (John David) and their children: Mary Ellen, David (Lisa) and Michael; his late brothers’ children: Tom (Susan), Jim (Gina) and Beth; four great nieces, 1 great nephew and one great-great nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, VA at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 7th. The internment will be immediately following at Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg, VA at 2 p.m. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Spotsylvania Greenfield Assisted Living in Spotsylvania and Capital Caring Hospice. Compared to gas, electric lawn equipment can reduce emissions, noise pollution, health risks and maintenance costs and time. The program aims to remove about a hundred gas-powered polluting tools from yards in the greater Baltimore-Washington region.

The exchanges will take place the weekends of May 17-19, 2024, and May 31-June 2, 2024, at A Few Cool Hardware Stores network of employee-owned Ace Hardware stores in the DC and Baltimore metro areas.
