House Burns in Forestdale, Sound of Gunfire Heard at Scene

DALE CITY, Va. — A fire broke out this afternoon at a home 4032 Forge Drive, behind Forestdale Plaza and Cheshire Station shopping center.

Crews were called to the Forestdale neighborhood about 2 p.m. for the fire. Three people were inside when the blaze broke out but were able to escape the flames. A total of seven people – three adults and four children — were displaced, according to initial reports.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents of the house. No injuries were reported.

Fire crews entered the house to douse the blaze. They also found a large pile of burning clothes in the basement of the home, according to initial reports.

There were reports of the sound of ammunition firing while crews were working to extinguish the fire. That prompted emergency crews briefly evacuate the structure.

A bullet, or small arms fire, “cooks off” when inside a blaze is generally harmless unless it is inside the barrel of a gun.
