STAFFORD, Va. — A Stafford County official will have the head seat on the Virginia Railway Express Operations Board this year.
Aquia District Supervisor Paul Milde will also serve as VRE’s Board chief for the second time in his political career. Milde last served as VRE Board Chairman in 2010 and is only the second Stafford County leader to serve in the position, following Stafford Supervisor Robert Gibbons who served on the VRE Board in 2002.
“I am honored that my peers elected me as chairman once again,” Mr. Milde said. “VRE has had a successful year in 2013, and I am looking forward to working with Chief Executive Officer Doug Allen to enhance our services this year as we continue to look for ways to make mass transit easier for our commuters.”
— Milde
A longtime member of the VRE Board, Milde helped oversee the expansion of parking lots at both the Leeland and Brooke VRE stations in Stafford County, on the commuter rail system’s Fredericksburg line, increasing capacity at those lots to 400 and 700 spaces, respectively.
The entire VRE Operations Board:
Chairman: Paul Milde – Stafford County

Secretary: Gary Skinner – Spotsylvania County
Treasurer: Paul Smedberg – City of Alexandria

DMV residents who turn in their gas-powered lawn tools will receive a FREE Ego Power+ replacement including batteries and chargers, while supplies last.
Compared to gas, electric lawn equipment can reduce emissions, noise pollution, health risks and maintenance costs and time. The program aims to remove about a hundred gas-powered polluting tools from yards in the greater Baltimore-Washington region.
The exchanges will take place the weekends of May 17-19, 2024, and May 31-June 2, 2024, at A Few Cool Hardware Stores network of employee-owned Ace Hardware stores in the DC and Baltimore metro areas.
