Back-to-School Nights Planned This Week

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — The teachers are back in class, and soon students will be, too.

Summer break ended for faculty at all of Stafford County’s public schools today. Many returned to the classroom to prep for the upcoming school year, and to welcome parents and students at a series of back-to-school events this week.

Back to school nights for all the county’s schools will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. – high schools on Tuesday, middle schools on Wednesday, and elementary schools on Thursday.

“It’s a really great social event for parents and students, and it’s particularly helpful for those rising into grades six or nine. Parents can meet teachers, and students can pay any class or team-associated fees for the year,” said Stafford schools spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim.

Schools start in Stafford and Prince William counties Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Tuesday morning, Stafford schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Bridges will welcome back teachers during a rally at North Stafford High School. The brainchild of Bridges, it’s the second year the back-to-school faculty rally will be held where he’ll address the crowd.

According to an invitation from the school system, faculty from middle and high schoolswill rally at 8:30 a.m. and elementary schools will rally at 11 a.m.

Businesses who have been supportive of the school system, including Madame Tussauds wax museum in Washington, will also have booths set up during the rally, said Cottongim.
