Women’s Health Center Gets Third Year Grant

MANASSAS, Va. — Manassas Midwifery and Women’s Health Center has been awarded a third year of funding from the March of Dimes Maryland-National Capital Area Chapter. This funding of $13,000 will allow the center to pursue Site Approval for the Centering Pregnancy model of group prenatal care through Centering Healthcare Institute. Site Approval is a rigorous process that provides expertise, support and guidance to strengthen Centering Pregnancy care at Manassas Midwifery.

Additionally, a portion of grant funds is designated for postpartum support groups for Latina women in the Manassas area. Midwives at MMWHC will team up with trained volunteers from Postpartum Support Virginia to provide culturally appropriate assessments, education and social support for new Hispanic mothers in Prince William County.

Manassas Midwifery is a leader in the provision of group care for prenatal and postpartum patients, in Northern Virginia. Women receive their medical assessments, education on related topics and the support and friendship of other women in their same stage of pregnancy and/or parenting. This model of care is well received by both patients and the midwives providing the care. March of Dimes supports this model of care because randomized controlled research trials have demonstrated improved birth and postpartum outcomes for women and babies receiving their care in a group setting.
