First newborn welcomed in Stafford

Stafford, Va. –– A pharmacist and a U.S. Marine are the proud parents of Stafford’s first newborn of 2011.

Brenda and Darien Pedota welcomed the newest addition to their family, Alexa, born at 12:09 p.m. New Year’s Day at Stafford Hospital Center.

“I know one is definitely going to be her number,” said Brenda Pedota. “We didn’t think about her being the first baby in Stafford at the time she was born, and when we heard she was, we were thinking ‘wow, first baby at 12:09? That’s a little late in the day.’”

On Monday night, Alexa and mother were resting together at home.

For Brenda, having Alexa was a reminder what pregnancy like six years ago when she had her first child, her son, Nolan.

Darien, her husband, is stationed at Quantico, and will be for at least the next three years. After he retires, the couple plans to continue living in Stafford.

Stafford Hospital Center is nearly two years old, and Brenda and Darien chose to have Alexa at the hospital because it was closest to her house, and because the staff was accommodating.

“They were wonderful. They made a conscious effort not to wake me up after the pregnancy,” Brenda said.

We also asked Sentara Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge about the first child born there New Year’s Day, however, we received no response.
