William Carl Puckett

William “Carl” Puckett died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 15, 2017.

He was born on June 4, 1943, the son of the late John Pete and Gladys Ellen Puckett. He married Gloria Jean Cornwell on October 25, 1963 — and their love story continues to this day. They have 3 children, Carly Puckett Lewis (Freddy Lewis), Christie Puckett Erney (Ken Erney), and William Bradley Puckett (Renae Seymour Puckett), and 7 grandchildren, Noah Christian Lewis, Cody Aaron Lewis, Taylor Christina Erney, Blake Addison Erney, Grace Elizabeth Erney, William Joseph Puckett, and Dylan Avery Johnson.

Carl was a retired airline Captain with USAirways for 30 years. Additionally, he was a flight instructor, farmer, and musician. Most importantly, he was a devoted, loving, active, ever-present husband, father, and grandfather.

In 1984, Carl and Gloria settled in Nokesville, Virginia, where they purchased and established a farm they named Carland Acres. Carl touched so many lives through his knowledge of so many diverse subjects — flying, weather, animals, birds, machinery, automobiles, geography, ancestry — and he was magnanimous with his land, equipment, tools, time, and intelligence. Carl’s kindness, helpfulness, humor, and generosity are well known with his neighbors, friends, and throughout the community. His loss will be felt deeply not only by his family who centered their lives around him, but also by his numerous friends, colleagues, and grandchildren’s friends who lovingly called him “Pap.” He was a friend to all, never met a stranger, and made everyone feel special.

The family is having a private service but would like to extend their sincere appreciation for all of the support and kindness given during this incredibly difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in his name and honor to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
