Update

We have more information from Prince William County fire and rescue on the blaze that broke out near the county’s landfill Monday afternoon.

We’re told drivers could see the smoke from Liberia Avenue in Manassas, more than 10 miles away.

From fire and rescue:

On Monday, July 11th at 4:22 p.m., fire and rescue crews were dispatched to a commercial fire at ASAP Auto Recycling and Salvage located at 14823 Dumfries Road in Dumfries.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed fire blazing from a two-story building extending to nearby vehicles. Firefighters began extinguishment of the fire while searching for further extension. HAZMAT was on scene as a precautionary measure for potential problems regarding water runoff and a compromised battery storage area affected by the fire.

One employee was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to a local medical facility for further treatment. No additional injuries reported.

According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire building was a total loss; the Building Official has posted the building and property unsafe.

The area of origin was an electrical panel; the cause has been determined as accidental.
