Give your stuff to PWEA so they can help WVa. flood victims

The Prince William Education Association is collecting donations to help West Virginia flood victims

From a press release:

By now all of you have likely seen the horrific pictures and heard the news regarding the devastating level of flooding that has taken place in neighboring West Virginia. At last count, at least two dozen people have lost their lives and the governor has declared State of Emergency in nearly 50 counties. Many folks have lost not only their homes, but everything they possessed in this world.

For those who may have been wondering what you as an individual might do to help, please consider the following. The PWEA Office will be serving as a collection point. Our contacts indicate that the following items are desperately needed:

  • Canned ready-to-eat (no cook) food
  • Non-perishables (i.e. crackers, jelly, peanut butter, etc.)
  • Cleaning supplies (including buckets)
  • Paper products (paper towels, toilet paper)
  • Toiletries (trial sizes preferred)
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Baby care items (diapers, food)
  • Pet food
  • Children’s books, toys, and games
  • blankets
  • gently used or new clothes

PWEA Office will accept donations from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM on the following dates.

  • Tuesday June 28th
  • Wednesday 29th
  • Thursday 30th
  • Wednesday July 6th
  • Thursday July 7th
  • Monday July 11th

You may also drop off donations at the Dale City 4th of July Parade, PWC NOW will have a box to collect items.

For those who may prefer to write a check, these may be made payable to the American Red Cross with WV Flood Relief in the memo line. We will see that all donations are directed to the correct entities.

To celebrate Air Quality Awareness Week (May 6-10, 2024), Clean Air Partners is working with A Few Cool Hardware Stores to exchange DC, Maryland and Virginia residents’ gas-powered lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers at select Ace Hardware locations in the region. DMV residents who turn in their gas-powered lawn tools will receive a FREE Ego Power+ replacement including batteries and chargers, while supplies last.

Compared to gas, electric lawn equipment can reduce emissions, noise pollution, health risks and maintenance costs and time. The program aims to remove about a hundred gas-powered polluting tools from yards in the greater Baltimore-Washington region.

The exchanges will take place the weekends of May 17-19, 2024, and May 31-June 2, 2024, at A Few Cool Hardware Stores network of employee-owned Ace Hardware stores in the DC and Baltimore metro areas. To participate and get your free Ego Power+ lawn tool, sign up at https://qrco.de/CAPExchange to reserve your tool and select your trade-in date and location.
