Henderson Elementary disinfected after flu outbreak

A  recent rash of absences from Henderson Elementary School in Montclair is now believed to be caused by a flu outbreak.

Prince William County Public Schools released this letter from Henderson Elementary School Principal Suzanne Bevens sent to parents and students.

Hello.  This is Suzanne Bevens, Principal of Henderson Elementary School.

Testing by the Prince William County Health District has just confirmed that the flu—specifically Influenza B—is responsible for the high rate of absences at various grade levels throughout the week.  As a result, we are postponing Friday’s scheduled 30th anniversary festivities after consultation with the health district.  However, overnight disinfecting operations will allow normal classes to be held tomorrow.

Since the confirmation arrived late today, we are putting information from the Health District onto our school website.  Please make a point of looking at it.

The flu is highly contagious and especially risky for children with asthma and related conditions.

Thanks to overnight disinfecting, we can have a normal school day tomorrow, as long as parents keep sick children home and not let them return until they have been fever free for at least 24 hours. Good hand washing is also vital

Unfortunately, the high number of people expected, and the short time available to conduct extra cleaning make unwise to a hold a big celebration and a confined area. After consultation with the Prince William Health District, are postponing tomorrow night’s event.  We will let you know shortly about plans to reschedule the celebration.

Meanwhile, please check the school website for the latest, and follow the advice. With your help we’ll get everyone healthy again as soon as possible.
