Programs & events coming up at Manassas Park Community Center in 2016

“Shaping the Future” is a sponsored column written by Manassas Park Community Center Marketing Manager Jason Shriner. The column highlights the many ways you can have fun, get fit, and improve your life.

With the New Year in full swing, we’ve been very busy getting ready for spring and summer programming! There are some important changes we’d like to share with you and we’d like to reveal a tiny bit of programming so you know what to expect in the coming year.

MOSAIC increased to 4 times per year

In response to customer feedback we’re switching things up with our program catalog, the MOSAIC. The MOSAIC will be coming out four times a year instead of two times a year.

This opens up more programming opportunities for our patrons as this gives us greater flexibility in creating new programs and finding instructors. In addition, many parents expressed that planning for summer camps in February (the typical release date for the spring/summer MOSAIC) was difficult.

We hope that by releasing the summer MOSAIC later in the year our loyal customers will find it easier to plan their summer vacations. The spring MOSAIC is scheduled to come out February 13th. The summer MOSAIC is scheduled to come out in April.

Aquatics / cooking classes

We have a lot of exciting new programming coming your way for 2016! Aquatics will now offer teen (ages 12-17) and senior (ages 55+) swim lessons. Preschoolers (ages 3-5) will get a chance to learn how to cook in our new Lil’ Sprouts Cooking Class.

Sports / STEM

Simply Science returns in spring. Students learn about science with fun and safe home experiments!

Recreation Services is launching the new Youth Summer Basketball League (ages 6-12) and we’re partnering with Aviation Ed, Inc. to bring STEM education programming for students in 1st-6th grade. Teens can learn a new language in our Spanish 101 program (ages 12-17) or learn about staged fighting – perhaps side-by-side their parents – in the WCRB Stage Combat Class (ages 16+).

Sunday afternoon adult sessions

Adults can enjoy their Sunday afternoons with our new Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata for Beginners class (ages 18+) or wind down their work week in the new Adult Monthly Board Game Night (ages 16+) offered every 4th Friday of the month.

Seniors (ages 55+) can participate in the new season of Pickleball. This is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and is offered Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 7:30am-9:00am.

Keep an eye out for the spring MOSAIC scheduled to be released February 13 where you can begin to register for and participate in the above programs and more! You can pick up your copy of the MOSAIC at the Manassas Park Community Center located at 99 Adams Street in Manassas Park or check out the digital copy on our website at ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com.
