1 shot and killed, 2 wounded in Gainesville

Murder Investigation *UPDATE – Detectives from the Homicide Unit have determined that this incident was not random and had stemmed from a physical altercation just prior to the shooting. All three victims were known to one another. The relationship between the shooting suspect and the victims is currently being investigated. The second seriously injured victim in this shooting is still hospitalized. This homicide investigation has been classified as a murder. This is Prince William County’s 3rd murder of 2015. Please note the correction to the age of the third victim in the below information previously released this morning. The investigation continues.

The deceased victim has been identified as Claude Lee JACKSON III, 23, of Gainesville

A 23-year-old Gainesville man was shot and killed in Gainesville. Two other were wounded. 

Here’s what we know, from a press release from Prince William police: 

On September 12th at 1:50AM, officers responded to the area of Old Linton Hall Rd and Charis Ave in Gainesville (20155) for a shots fired call. Officers arrived and located two adult male victims in a nearby parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to nearby hospitals where one victim, identified as a 23 year old man of Gainesville, died as a result of his injuries. The second victim, identified as a 22 year old man of Bristow, is suffering from life threatening injuries.  While investigating, officers were approached by a third victim, identified as a 25 year old man of Manassas, suffering from a minor graze wound to the hand. The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival, possibly in a light colored SUV. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 703-792-6500. The investigation continues. Additional information will be released when available.
