Washington D.C. police and the U.S. Navy have issued statements on the alleged incident at the Navy Yard this morning, and have given the all clear.

There is a potential active shooter situation this morning at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

Currently there has been no confirmed visual on the potential shooters, according to WUSA9.

D.C. police are looking for the individuals involved in the possible incident. They have been described as a white male and a black male.

Potomac Local spoke with an employee at the Navy Yard who stated that the facility is locked down. According to the employee, everyone at the Navy Yard has been told to shelter in place.

According to Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission spokeswoman Christine Rodrigo, the final OmniRide commuter buses from Prince William County bound for the Navy Yard of the morning were not able to make its final stop.

Police prevented the bus from proceeding due to a massive lockdown at the facility, and passengers were dropped off a few blocks from their destination, said Rodrigo.

OmniRide officials are monitoring the situation as commuters who live in Virginia and work at the Navy Yard look to get home later today.

“There is no service that we could offer right now because M Street is closed,” said Rodrigo.

If there are changes in OmniRide service today, the agency expects to update riders via an email alert system, as well as its website, stated Rodrigo.

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE), which runs trains through nearby Union Station, does not anticipate any changes to the train schedules.

“It should not affect our trains this afternoon,” said VRE Director of Public Affairs Bryan Jungwirth.

Fort Belvoir has issued an alert, asking that everyone avoid the area near the Navy Yard. Additionally, the alert stated that many of the roads near the area are closed while police are on the scene.

There is a massive police presence on M Street in Southeast Washington, D.C., according to Rodrigo.

Fort Belvoir police have implemented added protection measures.
