Maureen Caddigan likes Jerry Foreman

Type “Maureen Caddigan” into search.

Go ahead. I’ll wait.

OK, done?

Look down the page and you’re sure to see our headline: “Maureen Caddigan to Dumfries Mayor: I don’t trust you.” I wrote that story back in 2013.

In the story, Caddigan reacted to words Foreman spoke during a televised Dumfries Town Council meeting. He claimed she didn’t thoroughly represent the views of town residents on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, on which she sits.

For years, the two bickered back and forth over town issues. Other members of the Town Council, including Foreman, also took Caddigan to task over issues like improving traffic flow on Route 1, the town’s main thoroughfare.

But no more, as the two appear to be getting along these days. And we think it’s only fair to write about this newfound truce to appease the Google search gods.

We normally don’t write about political endorsements. There are so many of them, with so many candidates vying for so many different local offices. As for us news writers, there are so few of us.

Caddigan is running to keep her seat on the Board of Supervisors, and Foreman is running for a seat in the Virginia Senate in Richmond.

In fact, the bickering is so five minutes ago, Caddigan fully endorsed Foreman.

“I am pleased to announce my endorsement for Dumfries Mayor Jerry Foreman’s run for State Senate in the 36thDistrict,” said Supervisor Caddigan in a press release.  “It’s no secret that Jerry and I haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, but I can tell you that when it comes to improving the lives of people in Northern Virginia, we agree a lot more than we disagree.  He will be a great asset in Richmond and I look forward to working with him.”

Foreman also penned a pleasantry for the press release.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of Supervisor Caddigan,” said Mayor Foreman in the release.  “Maureen is a well-respected public servant who appeals to people regardless of their political affiliation.  I look forward to partnering with her to improve the lives of all the residents in Prince William County and all of Northern Virginia.”

So, it appears to the two made up and are now on the same page. For Caddigan, Foreman’s Senate bid means he won’t seek her seat on the Board of Supervisors to represent the Potomac District (which he is eligible do to so because he lives in the district). For Foreman, even if he doesn’t win his Senate seat, he’s fresh off a Mayoral win for the Town of Dumfries, and that job is sure to keep him busy for the foreseeable future.
