VDOT announces lane closures at Falmouth intersection next week in Stafford

Motorists traveling through the intersection of Route 1, Route 17 Business and Route 218 (Butler Road) in Stafford County can expect brief overnight travel delays next week due to ongoing construction work to improve the Falmouth intersection.

Route 1

Route 1 northbound will be reduced to a single lane at the intersection so crews can place traffic signal poles at the intersection corners.

The right northbound lane will be closed from 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, March 18.

Route 17 Business

Eastbound Route 17 Business will be reduced to a single lane from 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 17 to 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 18. Crews will be placing a signal pole.

Butler Road

Westbound Butler Road will be reduced to a single lane at the intersection from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. every night starting Sunday, March 15 through Thursday, March 19. Crews will be installing storm sewer facilities.

Carter Street

Carter Street will be closed to traffic from 9 p.m. Thursday, March 19 to 6 a.m. Friday, March 20 to install storm sewer facilities.

New through lanes and turn lanes are being built at the Falmouth intersection to reduce congestion and driver delay. The project is on schedule to be completed in September 2015.

For real-time updates on lane closures and work zones, please visit VDOT’s 24-hour traffic information website, www.511virginia.org or download VDOT’s 511Virginia free mobile app. Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.

To celebrate Air Quality Awareness Week (May 6-10, 2024), Clean Air Partners is working with A Few Cool Hardware Stores to exchange DC, Maryland and Virginia residents’ gas-powered lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers at select Ace Hardware locations in the region. DMV residents who turn in their gas-powered lawn tools will receive a FREE Ego Power+ replacement including batteries and chargers, while supplies last.

Compared to gas, electric lawn equipment can reduce emissions, noise pollution, health risks and maintenance costs and time. The program aims to remove about a hundred gas-powered polluting tools from yards in the greater Baltimore-Washington region.

The exchanges will take place the weekends of May 17-19, 2024, and May 31-June 2, 2024, at A Few Cool Hardware Stores network of employee-owned Ace Hardware stores in the DC and Baltimore metro areas. To participate and get your free Ego Power+ lawn tool, sign up at https://qrco.de/CAPExchange to reserve your tool and select your trade-in date and location.
