Salvation Army’s ‘Angel Tree’ Program Solicits Participants

First 30 families taken each day

The Salvation Army will be conducting registration for the 2014 Angel Tree Program on October 13 through 16 and October 20 through 23.

The registration will take place at the new location of The Salvation Army at 1483 Old Bridge Road, Suite #102, in Woodbridge. The first 30 families will be taken each day starting at 10 a.m., except for Thursday Oct.16, when registration will start at 3 p.m.

Each parent participating in the Angel Tree program is screened for proof of income and expenses, and must demonstrate genuine need. That is one of the reasons why many people support the program locally.

“We have gotten behind the Angel Tree program for the past few years because when we pull the tag of the Angle Tree and we buy what the kid has asked for, we know our gift is going directly to the child on whose name is on the tag,” said ST Billingsley, who serves on the Salvation Army Prince William Corps Board of Directors.

This year, The Salvation Army is in need of a warehouse for its annual Angel Tree Program. The warehouse that was used for the last couple of years had been leased and is not available. Captain George Hackbarth, the commanding officer of the Prince William Corps says “We need a warehouse of about 10,000 square feet or larger. Last year we provided 991 children with toys and stockings and we anticipate that we will have as many or more apply this year. We would like to have a warehouse or box store in the Woodbridge area because the majority of our applicants reside in the in the Woodbridge and Dumfries area.” Anyone who has a building that is available for the months of November and December can contact Captain Hackbarth by email [email protected] or call him at 202-497-0234.
