Should the Elections Office in Woodbridge Close on Saturdays?

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — If a satellite elections office in Woodbridge closes on Saturdays, what will that mean to you?

That’s what the Prince William County Electoral Board wants to know. The board, and the elections office it oversees, is responsible for conducting elections within the county – everything from presidential elections to state and local offices.

The satellite office inside the Woodbridge DMV on Caton Hill Road, just off Minnieville Road, is one of two elections offices in the county. The main office is outside the county’s courthouse in Manassas.

“The Electoral Board, at its last meeting, thought [closing the office] might be a good thing to look into and see what the public thought about it,” said Diana Dutton with the Prince William County Office of Elections.

A total of six employees work in the Woodbridge office, which has been located inside the DMV since 1999. Dutton did not have information on how much money would be saved if the office did close on Saturdays.

Prince William County officials put a survey on their website soliciting feedback from residents on the potential closure of the office. The survey is scheduled to remain active on the site until 5 p.m. August 29.

A third and fourth elections office will open temporarily inside the Prince William County Government Center’s McCoart Administration Building, and at the Haymarket Town Hall for the upcoming General Election on Nov. 4, said Dutton. The last day to register to vote in that election is Monday, Oct. 13.
