Student Driver Car Involved in Multi-Car Pile Up on Va. 610

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — A collision involving five vehicles, including one with a “student driver” decal, resulted in injuries and blocked an intersection on Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) during morning rush hour in North Stafford today.

Orlando Reyes, whose wife was taken by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital, said he and his family were travelling eastbound on Va. 610 to Interstate 95. He said a blue Honda with a student driver decal was travelling the wrong way – westbound – on Va. 610 and collided with his white van and several other cars. The collision occurred at the intersection of Brafferton and Garrisonville roads, in front of Brafferton Square Shopping Center around 8:30 a.m.

Another person was also taken to the hospital, according to Bill Kennedy, public information officer for the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Jessica Posey, 19, and her mother, Jeanette Stalcup, didn’t witness the accident but saw its immediate aftermath. Posey said it appeared that two people in the front seat of the blue car (pointing to the student driver vehicle) hit their heads on the windshield. She said she saw both of them bloody and in neck braces.

Stalcup said the back seat of the blue car was in the back window. But it’s not clear whether that occurred before or after extraction. According to the emergency scanner, the driver of the blue Honda was trapped and at least one door and the roof of the car had to be removed in order to free that person, who has not yet been identified.

According to Posey and Stalcup, after the accident occurred, the blue Honda was facing in the opposite direction from the other vehicles (see photos).

Kennedy said he cannot confirm which direction the student driver vehicle was travelling, or any other details, until the investigation is completed.
