PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Police spent last week rounding up suspects in a wide-reaching narcotics ring in Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park.
A total of 68 people were arrested and charged in connection with drug offenses during an operation Prince William police dubbed âdragon slayer.â Targeting the distribution of prescription medication and heroin use, detectives executed 13 search warrants and conducted searches at six additional locations.
Arrest warrants were also obtained for 18 other individuals not apprehended during âoperation dragon slayerâ which took place June 24 though June 26.
ââOperation âDragon Slayerââ not only included the necessary enforcement of state law, but also continued education about narcotic distribution and use in hopes of future prevention,â stated a Prince William police press release. After each arrest was made, staff and resources were made available by the Prince William County Community Services Board and the Police Chaplain Unit to educate the individual on substance abuse and provided arrestees with information about how to receive help.â
A taskforce of police from Prince William, Manassas, and Manassas Park participated in operation dragon slayer. Assistance from sheriffâs offices in Prince William and Stafford counties was also provided.
This latest operation comes after âoperation blue dragonâ in November 2013 that netted 40 narcotics arrests in Prince William. Seven search warrants were executed during that bust.
